Many moons ago on one of our trips to Christchurch to play MSH my collection of Russian helicopters suffered a catastrophic accident which resulted in the remains being left in a box. Last week I dug them out and reassembled the bits.
Theres 2 Hind F's on the near end (not obvious and I was about to order 2 more...) and the rest Hind D. I'll have to see if I can buy some of the sprues separately to get the rocket pods and AT missiles replaced. I have never been keen on rotor representations a the single blades look silly, and the plastic disks get scratched over time and look just as bad.
I'm still not sure quite how I've wound up with 7 (and I'm sure that there is a Hind A somewhere in the bits box) but they are not photoshopped into a picture to make a game look larger than it is.
And at least under MSH the forward HMG can shoot as far as the tip of the models tail.
Nice collection! That battlefront picture is wonderfully bad.. This reminds me that I need to pick up some more CH-46es for my Marines so I can transport in two battalions at a time.
ReplyDeleteSeven Hinds...There was a time you fielded models on mass.
ReplyDeleteI recall the great turkey shoot on the German plain when Soviets faced entrenched Chieftains separated by a river. The prospect of an assault across the river against the entrenched armour, on a battlefield devoid of cover, was not appealing. Fortunately the Hinds turned up.
A terribly unbalanced game if I recall.
Hmmm, yes, the good/bad old days of using the SPI games to generate campaigns. I must see what I have lying round to blog on this.
ReplyDeleteThe second game of the weekend, which was another river crossing, was actually rather enjoyable.
DeleteLike Rhys I'm not jeen on the palstic discs I've seen to date, so I've got all my helicopters painted so far based on the ground, so I can justify having the rotors both their and not in motion...
ReplyDeleteHelicopter rotors are a very interesting choice. One of my opponents has used plastic discs and they look reasonably good to me. That said I haven't used them myself yet. I'll perhaps need to photoshop something in at some stage.
DeleteDid the Czechs have helicopters? Sorry, couldn't help myself :)
